the African Anteater Ritual

I am not proud of my past.  I have frequent nightmares when the distraught memories of tearing it up in places like Club Post Nuclear in Laguna Beach, Marilyns in Pasadena, and Club Metro in Riverside haunt my soul.  If I could live my life again...I would probably pull a fight club on all these places.  My hearing is forever imparied by the obnoxiously disturbing beats of a synth and drum machine.  One thing that I loved about the 80's was the dirty (as in sound) British punk bands like Toy Dolls, GBH, UK Subs, Stiff Little Fingers, Subhumans, and Strawberry Switchblade.  Okay, so I had issues.  In the midst of it all and now that I live in my own Private Idaho my conclusions lead me to the fact that some of the best dance moves ever created were birthed out of the 80's.  Wouldn't you agree? Here a few...maybe you remember them....can you add a couple to my list?

  • Slam Dancing...or Moshing ---oh how we used to get kicked out of places for this
  • The Cabbage Patch...never too good at this one--later after the punk phase
  • The Roger Rabbit...sick and wrong
  • The Running Man...who could resist?
  • The African Anteater Ritual....thanks to Patrick Dempsey (Dr. McDreamy) in Can't Buy Me Love
  • I learned the Moonwalk from watching Michael Jackson..I also had red and blue zipper pants....
  • Breakdancing was radical to the max
  • Pop Locking was phat

Some of the best dance songs:

  • I want candy...bow wow wow
  • Rock this town....stray cats
  • She blinded me with science....thomas dolby
  • karma chameleon.....culture club
  • Our house....madness
  • Wild Thing....tone loc
  • Rock the casbah...the clash

As we grow older lets try and move our children away from the 80's.
Here is a great picture of my friend Shawn Felner doing a video shoot for camfel...in the good old days...hahhaha oh man.  Hilarious

i am a product of the 80's. I came from this generation, and yet i have a strong distaste for almost everything that correlates to it. I'm not really sure why, i'm actually positive there were more morals left intact 20 something years ago but still... the only good thing i can think of off the top of my head is michael jackson popping out thriller and a further advance in computer technology. but even then is that a good thing!?

A small correction: The club in Laguna Beach was called Ground Zero.
Ahhh....memories of loud house music and smoke. It's all good.
One song to ad to the list: TransX's "living on Video". Always reminds me of Marilyns in Pasadena.
All hail the greatness of the 80's.

    Your fellow club hopper,
